CCBC Essex responded in a big way on Sunday, erupting for six runs in the fifth inning to roll past Garrett College 11-0 and secure a split of the series while maintaining first place in Region 20.
 
The Knights broke things open in the fifth with a relentless offensive surge. Diego Garcia (So., Bradenton, FL) was hit by a pitch to force in a run, and later in the inning, a fielder's choice off the bat of Manuel Agostini (Fr., Toa Baja, PR) brought home two more. An error added another run before Andy Martínez Rivera (Fr., Vega Alta, PR) drew a bases-loaded walk, and Yariel Hernandez (Fr.) capped the inning with an RBI single.
 
CCBC Essex set the tone early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Connor Bailey (So., Salisbury, MD) grounded out to drive in a run and Joey Rosa (Fr., Carolina, PR) followed with an RBI single. The Knights added another in the third when Hernandez delivered again with a run-scoring single to make it 3-0.
 
On the mound, Joe Cuccurullo (RHP, Palm City, FL) was dominant, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits. The sophomore struck out six and walked two, controlling the game from the start and earning the win.
 
The offense continued to apply pressure throughout, finishing with 10 hits on the day. Rosa led the charge from the middle of the lineup, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Hernandez matched him with three hits, while Agostini added two more.
 
The Knights were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping nine bases in the game. Hernandez, Martínez Rivera, and Eisemann each recorded multiple stolen bases, showcasing CCBC Essex's speed and pressure offense. Defensively, the Knights also turned a double play to back their pitching staff.
 
Garrett College managed just two hits in the contest, with Gillott and Green each recording one.
 
With the win, CCBC Essex remains in first place in Region 20 and will return home Tuesday to face Hagerstown Community College.
