Knights Bounce Back to Earn Split, Improve to 18-2 in Region Play

After dropping the opener, CCBC Essex responded in a big way Tuesday, outlasting Allegany College of Maryland 10-7 in a high-scoring affair to earn a split of the Region 20 doubleheader.
 
With the win, the Knights move to 18-2 in Region 20 play, continuing to hold their position near the top of the standings.
 
Allegany struck first with a two-run home run in the opening inning, but CCBC Essex quickly answered with a decisive second inning. The Knights erupted for six runs on five hits, flipping the game and taking a 6-2 lead. The biggest swing came from Orville De Jesus (Fr., Killeen, TX), who launched a two-run home run to left field on a full count.
 
Allegany battled back to even the score in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a walk and a key double to tie the game at 6-6.
 
CCBC Essex regained the lead for good in the fifth, using aggressive baserunning to manufacture a run on a passed ball.
 
On the mound, Andy Martínez Rivera (Fr., Vega Alta, PR) delivered a strong relief performance to earn the win. The right-hander tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two. Joe Cuccurullo (RHP) shut the door late, recording the save.
 
Drew Rommel (So., Fallston, MD) got the start for the Knights, working into the fourth inning.
 
Offensively, CCBC Essex totaled 12 hits, with multiple players contributing throughout the lineup.
 
Casey Parsons (So., Salisbury, MD) led the way with three RBIs, going 2-for-3 in the middle of the order.
 
Manuel Agostini (Fr., Toa Baja, PR), Parsons, Nehomar Caldera (Fr., Memphis, TN), and Yahil Diaz (Fr., Carolina, PR) each collected two hits in the win.
 
Defensively, the Knights were again sharp, turning a double play and committing no errors. Michael Amadio (So., Lusby, MD) led the team with seven defensive chances.
