The bats stayed hot for CCBC Essex on Thursday, as the Knights rolled past CCBC Catonsville, 14-3, in another strong Region 20 road performance.
With the win, CCBC Essex improves to 21-6 overall and 15-1 in Region 20 play, while completing a perfect 5-0 road trip through Western Pennsylvania, returning to Baltimore County, and now turning their attention to the Eastern Shore.
Freshman Manuel Agostini (Toa Baja, PR) led the offensive surge, going 4-for-5 at the plate. The infielder set the tone early and never slowed down, launching a three-run home run to left field in the second inning while adding three singles across the contest.
The Knights got on the board in the first inning when Joey Rosa (Carolina, PR, Fr.) drove in a run with a groundout, but the game quickly broke open in the second. CCBC Essex exploded for six runs in the frame, capitalizing on an error before Agostini's three-run blast highlighted the inning. Connor Bailey (Salisbury, MD, So.) added an RBI single to extend the lead.
CCBC Essex continued to apply pressure late, plating five more runs in the seventh inning. Logan Eisemann (Bishopville, MD, Fr.) delivered a two-run single, and Bailey came through again with a three-run knock to cap off the scoring.
On the mound, Steven Gonzalez Rodriguez (Cidra, PR, Fr.) delivered a dominant outing, tossing four no-hit innings while striking out seven. The right-hander worked around three walks and kept Catonsville off balance throughout his 70-pitch performance.
The bullpen followed with strong work to finish the game, as Albert Castillo (Jarabacoa, DR, So.), Anthony Villar (Philadelphia, PA, Fr.), and Ezekiel Rivas (Gaithersburg, MD, Fr.) handled the final innings.
The Knights finished with 11 hits and were aggressive on the bases, swiping five bags. Laurin Guerra Guzman (Santo Domingo, DR, Fr.) and Eisemann each recorded multiple stolen bases as Essex dictated the tempo all afternoon.
Defensively, the Knights were sharp as well, turning a double play and limiting Catonsville to just three runs.
Catonsville was led by Bickers, who drove in a run, while Hernandez added two hits from the nine spot. Brewer was charged with the loss for CCBC Catonsville.
