Big Fifth Inning Powers CCBC Essex Past CCBC Dundalk in Region 20 Matchup

CCBC Essex used a dominant fifth inning to pull away from CCBC Dundalk, earning a 10-0 victory in Game 1 of Saturday's Region 20 doubleheader.
 
With the win, the Knights improve to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in Region 20 play, while extending their winning streak to two games.
 
After a quiet start, CCBC Essex broke through in the third inning when Sophomore Diego Garcia (Bradenton, FL) lifted a sacrifice fly to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
 
The game remained tight until the fifth inning, when Essex erupted for eight runs to take full control. The rally featured contributions throughout the lineup, beginning with an RBI single from Freshman Joey Rosa (Carolina, PR)Freshman Adrian Camilo (Bronx, NY) delivered the biggest hit of the inning with a bases-clearing single, driving in three runs.
 
Sophomore Laurin Guerra Guzman (Santo Domingo, DR) followed with an RBI double, and Garcia added a two-run double later in the frame. Rosa capped off the inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run, extending the lead to 9-0.
 
On the mound, Sophomore Mekhi Mancuso (Baltimore, MD) turned in a dominant performance, tossing a complete five-inning shutout. The right-hander allowed just three hits while striking out seven and walking one over 67 pitches.
 
Offensively, the Knights showcased their depth, as Freshman Nehomar Caldera (Memphis, TN) led the way from the eight spot in the lineup, going 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Garcia finished with a team-high three RBIs, while Essex totaled six stolen bases as a team.
 
Defensively, CCBC Essex was flawless, committing no errors and turning a double play, with Gabriel Vargas (Cidra, PR) leading the way with nine defensive chances behind the plate.
 
CCBC Dundalk was limited offensively, with Harris, Cooke, and Bonds each recording a hit, but were unable to generate consistent pressure against the Knights' pitching.
 
CCBC Essex will look to complete the doubleheader sweep as Game 2 is set to begin shortly in Dundalk.
