Third-Quarter Surge Proves Too Much as CCBC Essex Falls to Harford, 17–10

Third-Quarter Surge Proves Too Much as CCBC Essex Falls to Harford, 17–10

CCBC Essex showed early composure and balanced scoring, but a dominant third quarter from Harford Community College ultimately decided the matchup, as the Knights dropped a 17–10 decision.

Essex came out sharp in the opening quarter, matching Harford goal for goal in a 3–3 start. The Knights' offense was evenly distributed, with multiple contributors finding rhythm early, while the defense held firm enough to keep the game level through 15 minutes. The second quarter remained tight, with each side adding just one goal, sending the teams into halftime tied 4–4.

The turning point came immediately after the break. Harford erupted for nine goals in the third quarter, seizing control of the game despite Essex managing three of its own. That stretch created separation that the Knights could not fully recover from, as Harford carried a 13–7 lead into the final period.

Offensively, Essex showed depth and balance across the roster. Rob Andrews (Soph., Towson, MD) led the way with a hat trick and four points on six shots, while Jacob Bieschke (Soph., Baltimore, MD) added two goals and three ground balls. Peyton Stevens (Fr., Baltimore, MD) also contributed two goals, helping maintain offensive pressure throughout the game.

The Knights' midfield production stood out as well, particularly from Peyton Moritzen (Soph., Manheim Township, PA), who dished out a team-high four assists and added two ground balls in a strong facilitation role. Max Johnson (Soph., Westminster, MD) was active across the stat sheet with a goal, two shots on goal, and a team-high 11 ground balls, providing crucial possession support. Luke Wojtech (Fr., Crofton, MD) also chipped in a goal and two ground balls.

Defensively, Colin Parker (Soph., Martinsburg, WV) faced heavy pressure in net, finishing with 15 saves on 32 shots in the loss, as Harford's third-quarter surge proved too much to contain.

Despite being outscored 13–6 in the second half, Essex continued to battle in the fourth quarter, adding three more goals and showing resilience until the final whistle. The Knights will look to build on their early-game execution and offensive balance as they move deeper into conference play, aiming to tighten defensive stretches that proved costly in the third quarter.
