Knights Suffer First Loss of the Season in Long Island with a 12-6 defeat to Nassau

The rivalry between CCBC Essex and Nassau Community College added another chapter Saturday afternoon, as the Lions pulled away in the second half for a 12-6 victory over the Knights on March 21.

The two programs battled evenly through the opening quarter, finishing tied 2-2 after 15 minutes. Nassau found separation in the second period, outscoring CCBC Essex 3-1 to take a 5-3 halftime advantage. The decisive stretch came in the third quarter, when the Lions erupted for five goals while holding the Knights to just one, building a commanding 10-4 lead entering the final frame.

CCBC Essex showed resilience in the fourth quarter with two late goals, but Nassau answered with two of its own to secure the six-goal win and continue its long-running success in the series.

The Knights struggled to generate consistent offensive momentum against Nassau's defensive pressure throughout the afternoon. Faceoff control and possession time tilted in favor of the Lions during key stretches, allowing Nassau to dictate the pace after halftime. CCBC Essex's defense battled throughout the contest, but the third-quarter surge proved too much to overcome.

Freshman Attack Rob Andrews (Towson, MD) led the Knights in scoring with 3 goals and 1 assist. Knights goalie Colin Parker (Soph., Martinsburg, WV) recorded his first loss of the season, making 14 saves on 26 shots on goal.

The loss marked another tough meeting with Nassau, which has historically been one of the premier programs in junior college lacrosse. Despite the setback, the Knights continued to show flashes of the explosive offensive ability that helped fuel a strong season campaign.
