No. 3 CCBC Essex Men’s Lacrosse Downs Delaware Tech 16-3 in Season Opener
The Knights had to wait an extra week and travel to The Calverton School due to a snow covered field, but that did not stop them from toppling Delaware Technical & C.C. 16-3 on Saturday.
Freshmen attackmen Joe Creaghan (Bel Air High School) and Will Manganiello (Penncrest High School, Media, Pa.) and sophomore attackman Julian Jackson (Wilson High School, Reading, Pa.), each scored three goals and had one assist for a total of four points.
Freshman attackman Brendan Nolan (Fallston High School) also had four points on two goals and two assists.
Jackson got the Knights (1-0, 0-0 Maryland JUCO) on the board just 2:28 into the game. Less than two minutes later Creaghan scored and Manganiello added one to give his team a 3-0 lead after one quarter.
The Knights continued the onslaught in the second quarter, outscoring Del Tech 5-1 and taking an 8-1 lead into halftime.
Del Tech scored two goals late in the fourth, but the Knights wrapped the contest up with a convincing 16-3 victory.
Freshman Max Edelmann (Middletown High School) started in goal for the Knights and played 30 minutes. He made five saves and allowed just one goal.
Sophomore Ross Dinan (Geneva High School, N.Y.) played the other 30 minutes between the pipes. He also made five saves and allowed two goals.
The Knights defense was just as stellar as its goalies, as starter Tommy Brown (freshman, Boys Latin) collected three groundballs and his unit held Del Tech to only 13 shots on goal.
"The defense has been the unit we can count on," said Knights head coach Shawn Burke. "Max [Edelmann] has been a leader back there and done a great job; the whole defense has done great."
Next up for the Knights is a road trip to take on No. 4 Genesee C.C. on Saturday at 1 PM.
