CCBC Essex Sets Program Regular Season Wins Record In Wild Victory Over Chesapeake

CCBC Essex made program history on Thursday afternoon, breaking the school record for regular season wins with a thrilling 14-11 victory over Chesapeake College at CCBC Essex in Rosedale, Maryland.
 
The win moved the Knights to 32-12 overall, marking the most regular season victories in program history.
 
The bats were alive throughout the afternoon as the two teams combined for 28 hits and five home runs in a high-scoring Region 20 battle.
 
Freshman Yariel Hernandez sparked the Knights offensively, collecting three hits in three at bats, including a solo home run to center field in the second inning. Hernandez also added singles in the seventh and eighth innings during the record-setting win.
 
Chesapeake jumped out early in the second inning after Stroud connected on a solo home run and Sherwood doubled home two more runs to give the Skipjacks a 3-0 advantage.
 
CCBC Essex answered immediately when Hernandez launched his solo shot in the bottom half of the inning to cut into the deficit.
 
The Skipjacks continued to apply pressure offensively, adding two more runs in the fifth inning on a Rosanova home run before Siwald connected for another two-run homer in the sixth.
 
Trailing late, the Knights delivered their biggest inning of the season in the bottom of the seventh.
 
CCBC Essex exploded for eight runs on seven hits to completely flip the game and seize a 13-10 lead. The key moment came when Guerra
 
Guzman crushed a two-run homer to right field, igniting the dugout and the home crowd.
 
The Knights added insurance in the eighth before Chesapeake added a late solo home run from Stroud in the ninth.
 
Steven Gonzalez Rodriguez earned the victory in relief for CCBC Essex after tossing 3.1 innings. The freshman right-hander allowed four runs while striking out one.
 
Logan Castro started the game for the Knights, while Zacchaeus Artry Villar (Fr., Philadelphia, PA) delivered a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
 
CCBC Essex finished with 15 hits in the victory. Hernandez, Guerra Guzman, and Yahil Diaz each recorded three-hit performances, while Guerra Guzman and Diaz both drove in two runs. Connor Bailey (Soph., Salisbury, MD) added two hits as well.
 
Chesapeake collected 13 hits in the loss, led by Rosanova's three-hit performance and Stroud's two-home-run game.
 
With the historic win, CCBC Essex continues to build momentum heading into postseason play as the Knights remain one of the top teams in Region 20.
