CCBC Essex Falls to Harford After Explosive Start by Fighting Owls

Rosedale, MD – CCBC Essex couldn't find their rhythm offensively and dropped Game 1 of Tuesday's non-region matchup to the Harford Fighting Owls, 11-0, at home on the CCBC Essex campus.

Harford got on the board in the top of the second inning when Greyson Kovatch tripled to drive in the game's first run. The Owls then broke the game open in the third, sparked by an RBI double from Frank Adamski followed by a three-run home run to left field by Derek Poole, giving Harford a 5-0 lead.

Freshman Danner Swift (Newark, MD / Snow Hill) took the mound for CCBC Essex, surrendering eight hits and eight runs over 3.2 innings, walking three and striking out none. On the other side, Kyle Tuthill was dominant for Harford, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just two hits, striking out three, and walking three.

The Knights managed just two hits in the contest—Freshman Casey Parsons (Salisbury, MD / Parkside) and Freshman Jack Chase (Clifton, VA / Centreville) each picked up a knock.

Harford collected 10 hits overall, led by multi-hit performances from Yariel Rodriguez, Poole, and Kovatch. Keldrin Rodriguez and Poole each drove in three runs to power the Harford offense. Defensively, the Fighting Owls were flawless, committing no errors. Ty Mercado led the team with four chances in the field.

The loss marks CCBC Essex's third defeat this season against Harford. The Knights will look to bounce back quickly as Game 2 begins in 30 minutes.
