Knights Shut Out in Game 2, Split Series with AACC Riverhawks

ESSEX, MD — After a thrilling walk-off win in Game 1, CCBC Essex couldn't keep the momentum rolling in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, falling to AACC Riverhawks 4-0. The loss brings the Knights back to an even 18-18 on the season.

The Riverhawks struck early, plating two runs in the second inning — one on a single to center by Travis Fleshman, and another on a double play grounded into by Agustin Murillo. They added two more in the third thanks to a run-scoring single from Griffin Klein.

Sophomore Arnaldo Carrion took the mound for Essex and went five innings, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out two and walking six.

Offensively, the Knights were held to just two hits — a single apiece from sophomore Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY / Christ the King) and freshman Diego Garcia (Bradenton, FL / Manatee).

AACC's pitching staff combined for a shutout effort, and their defense was spotless — no errors on the day and Klein led the team with eight defensive chances.

The Riverhawks showed plate discipline again, drawing seven walks, with Evan Birch and Nicco Holland leading the way with two each. Klein and Fleshman both went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
