CCBC Essex
Rosedale, MD – CCBC Essex suffered another tough loss on Sunday, falling to Garrett College in the second game of the doubleheader, which dropped their record to 14-14 overall and 10-10 in Region 20. After a frustrating collapse in game one, the Knights struggled to generate offense and fell short in key moments in game two.
Garrett College struck early, taking advantage of timely hitting and defensive miscues by CCBC Essex to jump out to an early lead. The Knights fought back, with Sophomore Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY / Christ the King) continuing his strong performance with an RBI single in the third inning.
Sophomore Jimmy Perez (Queens, NY / High School for Arts and Business) and Sophomore Justin Cook (Bradenton, FL / Manatee) each added hits, but CCBC Essex couldn't string together enough offense to mount a serious comeback.
Freshman Drew Rommel (Fallston, MD / Fallston) took the mound for the Knights, battling through several tough innings. He took the loss and is now 2-2 on the season after allowing multiple runs in the early frames. Sophomore Logan Bennett (Forest Hills, NY / Forest Hills) and Freshman Diego Garcia (Bradenton, FL / Manatee) provided relief, but Garrett College extended their lead in the middle innings.
Despite moments of promise, the offense simply couldn't recover, and Garrett College secured the series sweep, dealing CCBC Essex their second consecutive loss.
