CCBC Essex Come Up Short Against Hagerstown CC in Game 1 of the Doubleheader

Hagerstown, MD – CCBC Essex could not keep pace with Hagerstown CC, falling 10-6 on Saturday at Hagerstown Community College. Hagerstown came into the doubleheader red-hot, winning 19 of their first 20 games and remaining undefeated in Region 20 play.

Hagerstown CC opened the scoring in the second after Lowman singled, driving in two runs.

CCBC Essex tied the game in the top of the sixth thanks to a single by Sophomore Eduardo Zayas (Cidra, PR / Bilingual Education School at Cidra), an error, and a double by Freshman Casey Parsons (Salisbury, MD / Parkside).

Hagerstown CC regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Freshman Danner Swift (0-1) (Newark, MD / Snow Hill) induced Shimmel to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored on a mishandled tag at the plate. An error on a routine double play ball followed, allowing two more runs to cross the plate. Swift later induced Lowman to hit into another fielder's choice, but one additional run scored on a mishandled pick-off play.

Freshman Yadier Henriquez Lopez (3-0) (Harrisburg, PA / Central Dauphin East) started on the mound for CCBC Essex. The righty surrendered seven hits and six runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Castellow started the game for Hagerstown CC, allowing five hits and six runs (five earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking three.

Parsons, who hit eighth in the lineup for CCBC Essex, led the offense with two RBIs. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Parsons, Zayas, and Sophomore Maxwell Urena (Brooklyn, NY / Christ the King) each collected two hits for CCBC Essex.

Lowman led Hagerstown CC with four RBIs from the number eight spot in the lineup. The third baseman went 2-for-4 on the day. Fllig and Lowman each collected two hits for Hagerstown CC. The Hawks were aggressive on the base paths, tallying three stolen bases, and turned one double play in the game.
