CATONSVILLE, MD – CCBC Essex struggled to keep pace with CCBC Catonsville, falling 14-3 on Tuesday in the first game of a Region 20 doubleheader.
Early Lead Slips Away
- CCBC Essex struck first in the second inning when Freshman Connor Bailey (Salisbury, MD) singled, driving in one run.
- CCBC Catonsville answered in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly by Sankovich, tying the game at 1-1.
- In the top of the third, Sophomore Rafael Castillo (New York, NY) grounded out to drive in a run, giving Essex a 2-1 lead.
Catonsville Takes Control
CCBC Catonsville erupted for four runs in the third, capitalizing on two errors and a two-run double by Sankovich to take a 5-2 lead.
The fifth inning proved costly for Essex, as Catonsville scored seven runs on four hits, including:
- A bases-loaded walk drawn by Faulkner.
- A three-run double by Barthelemy.
- A three-run home run by Grajales.
Catonsville added two more runs in the sixth on a home run by Guzman, sealing the 14-3 victory.
