ROSEDALE, MD – CCBC Essex continued its red-hot form, dismantling Westmoreland 17-0 on Sunday at The Kingdom. With the victory, the Knights have now won five straight games and improve to 3-0 in Region 20 play.
Offensive Outburst Fuels Knights' Victory
CCBC Essex wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning, as Freshman Connor Bailey (Salisbury, MD) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, followed by Sophomore William Hartman's RBI single down the left field line.
The second inning saw an offensive explosion, with the Knights plating seven runs on three hits.
- Bailey singled, driving in a run.
- Sophomore Rafael Castillo (Queens, NY) followed with a two-run single.
- Sophomore Eduardo Zayas (Cidra, PR) was hit by a pitch, forcing in another run.
- Sophomore Jimmy Perez (Queens, NY) delivered a two-run single.
- A defensive miscue by Westmoreland added another run to cap off the inning.
CCBC Essex kept the pressure on in the third, adding four more runs:
- Castillo hit a sacrifice fly.
- Hiyu Ota ripped a two-run single.
- Perez doubled to bring in another run.
Henriquez Lopez & Hineline Shut the Door
Freshman Yadier Henriquez Lopez (2-0) dominated on the mound, tossing four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five and walking only one.
- Sophomore Mitchell Hineline came in to close it out, securing the shutout.
Knights Excel at the Plate & on the Basepaths
- CCBC Essex racked up 11 hits, led by Bailey and Perez with two each.
- Perez and Castillo drove in three runs apiece.
- The Knights worked nine walks, with Freshmen Lorenzo Rodriguez Pozo and Laurin Guerra Guzman drawing two each.
- CCBC Essex wreaked havoc on the bases, swiping eight bags, including three by Perez.
- The defense turned a crisp double play to keep Westmoreland off the scoreboard.
For Westmoreland, Dylan Stonebreaker led the team with two hits in two at-bats.
