Baseball: Knights Drop Doubleheader at Harford

Game 1 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Harford's Carter Heller struck out the side to start the game
  • A Knights fielding error by Austin Mumaw allowed Harford's Brelon Harden to score in the first to make it 1-0
  • Cam Powers plated Mitch Haywood with an RBI single in the top of second to tie the game at 1-1
  • Harford's Hunter Blair hit a two run homer in the bottom of the second to put the Fighting Owls back on top 3-1
  • Harford continued its scoring in the third, this time with a five-run inning 
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Hardford's Ty Kwiatkoski's single scored three, increasing the lead to 11-1
  • The Knights failed to score in the top of the fifth, giving Harford a 10-run, mercy rule victory in game one. 

NOTES

  • CCBC Essex starting pitcher Jeff Young was pulled in the bottom of the third, finishing with six earned runs on four hits, four walks and three strikeouts in two innings
  • Ryan Conroy finished the game for the Knights, giving up two earned runs over two innings pitched on four hits, while walking one
  • Three of Harford's 11 runs were unearned as a result of five Knights' errors 

 Game 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bottom of the first, Knights pitcher Todd Murphy overthrows first on a pickoff attempt allowing one run to score giving Harford an early 1-0 lead
  • Harford increased its lead to 2-0 on a sac fly to right field by Braydon Parr
  • Harford's Reyce Curnane doubled in the bottom of the fourth to drive in two runs, increasing the Fighting Owls' lead to 4-0
  • Luis Gonzalez singled in the top of fifth to drive in Maldonado for the Knights to bring the score to 4-1 Harford
  • CCBC Essex's Nick Hemstreet singled to right to drive in Max Jinjika to cut Harford's lead in half at 4-2
  • Chris Wallace enter in relief for Harford in the top of the sixth inning and inherited two runners
  • Luis Marrero greeted him with a first-pitch single up the middle to drive in Nomar Torres-Guzman to make it a one-run game
  • Unfortunately, Harford scored two in its half of the second and held Essex scoreless in the seventh to finish the sweep with a 6-3 victory

 NOTES

  • Murphy finished the game with three earned runs, five strikeouts, and four walks in four innings pitched
  • Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and is now 2-for-5 in three games
  • Jinjika reached base in three of four at-bats, drawing three walks.
