CCBC Athletics Hall of Fame Spotlight of the Day: John A. Abe

A 1980 graduate of Northern High School (Baltimore, Md.), John A. Abe made an outstanding contribution to soccer at CCBC Essex.

A two-time NJCAA All-American (1980 and 1981), Abe was a midfielder who was known to be extremely quick with a strong left foot.

He was also named first team All-NJCAA Region XX and All-Maryland JUCO Conference both seasons.

During his sophomore season with the Knights, the Baltimore Blast selected Abe in the second round of the 1981 Major League Indoor Soccer Draft.

He would go on to play 10 years (1984-1994) of professional indoor soccer with the following teams: Columbus Capitals (Ohio), Hershey Impact (Pa.), Chicago Power (Ill.), Harrisburg Heat (Pa.) and Baltimore Spirit (Md.).

Abe was selected a National Premier Soccer League All-Star for the Hershey Impact (1990-1991) and the Harrisburg Heat (1991-1992). From 1987 to 1995, he also played professional outdoor soccer with the Maryland Bays and the Albany Alley Cats (N.Y.).

In consideration of his rich collegiate and professional career, Abe was honored with induction into the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame in 2000.

Since 1999, Abe has worked in the human resources department with the Pennsylvania State Education Association.
